Three Tier George II Period Mahognay Dumb Waiter (c. 1750 England)

An exceptionally fine three tier George II period mahognay dumb waiter. Each moulded edge tray separated by beautifully wrythen turned baluster stems, all on cabriole legs and ridged pad feet and original castors.

The most exquisite features are the hidden treasures in the design and construction. Not only is the boss to the underside of the top tray detailed with tray edge mouldings, but the ultimate gem is the way the stems and trays are chamfered where they meet: a brilliant and divinely simple way of ensuring the long term ease of having a tight fit of the stem but free movement of the trays without pressure or excessive wear.

Exemplary rich and untouched colour and patina.

Trays diameters: 15", 19” and 24”
