A particularly rare George II period mahogany twin drop leaf dining table. (c. 1730 English.)

This is a particularly rare form of an early Georgian mahogany dining table; comprising two double drop leaf tables, extending on double outward opening 'gates', all on turned and tapered legs on pad feet. The additional notes of quality here are the arcaded chamfered friezes and the cleated tops.

Condition	Just the most glorious and captivating 'untouched' colour and patina, which is consistent throughout.
Literature	It is likely that such tables were supplied by John Hodson in 1733 to Sir Herbert Packington of Westwood Park, Worcestershire; comprising ‘a Large Oblong mohogeny dining Table with 2 flapps … to hold 12 people’. There is a similar ‘set’ of dining tables at Houghton Hall. Currently standing in the Marble Parlour as four joined tables, it may well have been made as two ‘pairs’, as ours, one for the Hunting Hall and one for the family dining room.
